Lillehammer (RWH): Skeleton athlete Ashleigh Pittaway, the 2016 Youth Olympic Champion, is about to face her first ever World Cup season. According to a report by the British Bobsleigh & Skeleton Association, the 17-year-old became the youngest athlete to be selected for the UK’s six-strong team for the 2017/2018 BMW IBSF World Cup following the selection races in Lillehammer.

For the women’s event, she is joined by Olympic Champion Lizzy Yarnold and the athlete who finished sixth in last season’s overall World Cup, Laura Deas. The men’s team is made up of Dom Parsons, Jeremy Rice and Jack Thomas.

Ashleigh Pittaway’s debut in the BMW IBSF World Cup comes not long after her victory at the Youth Winter Olympics. At the 2016 World Cup final in Königssee, she finished 15th, making her the best female British athlete that day. ©RWH2017
