Innsbruck (RWH) Skeleton athlete Matthias Guggenberger from Austria takes a year off in the post-Olympic 2018/2019 season. That was announced in the newspaper Tiroler Tageszeitung. Guggenberger, tenth overall in 2012 and 2015 World Cup and three times Olympian, underwent knee surgery after the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang.
Inspite of competing as athlete, the 33-years-old will now work as coach for Belgium in the coming winter. As part of a training cooperation, he will coach Kim Meylemans (BEL) as well as the Austrian World Cup team with Olympic fourth Janine Flock and Florian Auer. ©RWH2018
