Skeleton athlete Wengang Yan first Europe Cup winner from China
Königssee (RWH) Skeleton athlete Wengang Yan is the first athlete from China to win a race in the IBSF Europe Cup. At Königssee (GER), the 21-year-old relegated Fabian Küchler and Cedric Renner (both GER) to the second and third places in the fifth race of the season. Küchler had previously won all four Europe Cup events. In the first race at Koenigssee he won ahead of Russian Evgeniy Rukosuev and German team-mate Lukas Nydegger.
In Women's Skeleton, Hannah Neise, 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games silver medallist, won the first Königssee race ahead of Janine Becker (both GER) and Youth Olympic Champion Ashleigh Pittaway (GBR). In the second race, Janine Becker had the best overall time, with Ashleigh Pittaway finishing second ahead of Hannah Neise in third.
The IBSF Europe Cup Skeleton continues on 11th and 12th January 2019 in Altenberg (GER) with the sixth and seventh races of the season. The conclusion and highlight of the winter is then the Europe Cup final, at the same time European Junior Championships, in Sigulda (LAT, 26 January 2019). ©RWH2018
