Elisabeth Maier finishes second in Sigulda ahead of Tina Hermann

Sigulda (RWH) The first World Cup victory in Women’s Skeleton of the 2018/2019 winter season has gone to Russia. European Champion Elena Nikitina has won the first BMW IBSF World Cup of the season in Sigulda (LAT), setting a new track record of 52.51 seconds on her first run. Second place went to Canada’s Elisabeth Maier (née Vathje, 0.30 seconds back), who finished third overall in the World Cup standings last winter. German Tina Hermann (0.48 seconds back), the 2016 World Champion, finished third in Sigulda.

Olympic silver medallist Jacqueline Lölling (GER), World Champion and defending champion in the BMW IBSF World Cup, finished the first race of the season in fifth place.

In the overall standings of the BMW IBSF World Cup 2018/2019, Elena Nikitina (RUS, 225 Points) leads after the first of eight races ahead of Elisabeth Maier (CAN, 210) and Tina Hermann (GER, 200).
