Königssee (RWH) The Skeleton competitions of BMW IBSF World Cup and European Championships in Königssee (GER) are canceled. The race organizers have made the decision to cancel the Men's and Women's Skeleton races scheduled for Friday (January 11) due to continued snowfall and poor weather forecasts for the upcoming night. "Under these circumstances, we can not guarantee for the safety of the athletes", explains Markus Aschauer, Operations Manager of the Königssee track. The local track workers have been working tirelessly for days to ensure the best possible starting conditions, but the southern district of Berchtesgaden, which also includes the community Königssee, has been placed under disaster alert since Thursday.
On Friday, the roofs of the functional buildings and curve roofs of the sliding track - an area of about 3000 square meters - shall be cleared from the snow load.
The World Cup and European Championship competitions of 2-woman and 2-man Bobsleigh on Saturday as well as the 4-man Bobsleigh are scheduled as planned.
The European Championship in Skeleton will be hosted at the BMW IBSF Skeleton World Cup in Igls (January 18, 2019). The IBSF will announce at a later stage whether and where the canceled BMW IBSF Skeleton World Cup will be held.
