Elvis Veinbergs wins silver in St. Moritz ahead of Livio Summermatter with bronze

St. Moritz (RWH) Lukas David Nydegger (GER) is the 2020 Youth Olympic Champion in the men’s skeleton. The 17-year-old won with a 1.42-second lead at the St. Moritz-Celerina Olympia Bobrun. A future star of the German team, Nydegger was coached by Anja Huber Selbach, the 2008 women’s skeleton World Champion.

Second place and the Olympic silver medal at the Lausanne 2020 Youth Winter Games (YOG) was awarded to 16-year-old Elvis Veinbergs from Latvia.

To round off the Youth Winter Games, the team from the YOG hosts Switzerland celebrated their first medal in sliding sports: Livio Summermatter, the 2019 Swiss Skeleton Champion, celebrated his bronze at the YOG with his team, friends and family.

A total of 20 athletes from 13 countries raced in the men's skeleton at the 2020 Youth Winter Olympic Games in Lausanne.

Lukas Nydegger (GER): “I started quickly straight away and managed to get in two good runs. I’m not scared of the speed in the slightest. Was it my love of chocolate that made me so fast today? Could be!”

Elvis Veinbergs (LAT): “I am so happy with my medal. Everything went according to plan. After the Youth Winter Games, I definitely want to carry on with the sport.”

Livio Summermatter (SUI): “Incredible, I didn’t imagine that it could be so great. I’m super happy. I have a super team behind me – the best around!”
