Altenberg (RWH) In four weeks the BMW IBSF World Championships 2020 are due to start in Altenberg (GER). For the first time, a Skeleton Mixed race will take place instead of the team competition.

The new racing format is scheduled before the 4-man bobsleigh final on the last World Championships day (March 1). At the Skeleton Mixed race, one female and one male athlete from one nation compete as a team.

Who is eligible to start?

Only skeleton athletes who are qualified for the individual races at the BMW IBSF World Championships 2020 are eligible to start in the team competition.

How are the teams composed?

A team consists of one female and one male athlete per nation. Teams from different nations are not allowed. Up to two teams can be registered per nation.

In which order do the teams start?

The starting order is based on the IBSF ranking for Women's Skeleton and Men's Skeleton. The points of both team members are added up, the team with the lowest number of points gets the starting number 1, the one with the highest number of points starts at the end.

Skeleton Mixed Team World Championships - how does it work?

The Women’s Skeleton athlete starts first. When she finishes, her team partner has a 30-second time window for his start. The two run times are added up, the team with the lowest total time wins the Skeleton Mixed World Championship.
