Innsbruck (RWH) Austrian Walter Stern is the new head coach of the national Skeleton team in his home country. This is reported by the Austrian Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation ÖBSV on Instagram.

The 48-year-old was a Skeleton athlete in the World Cup and European Cup from 1996 to 2006. In 2003 he won the European Championship title in St. Moritz (SUI).

As a coach, Walter Stern has worked for the British Skeleton youth, including Amy Williams and Lizzy Yarnold, the 2010, 2014 and 2018 Olympic Champions. In Switzerland, he has coached, among others, Vice World Champion Marina Gilardoni.

According to the ÖBSV, the Austrian national coach will be in charge of two-time European Champion Janine Flock and will help the young athletes Samuel Maier, Florian Auer and Alexander Schlintner getting to the world elite. ©RWH2020
