Moscow (RWH) Dirk Matschenz (GER), head coach of the German Skeleton national team from 2018 to April 2020, joins the coaching staff of the Bobsleigh Federation of Russia, as was announced in a federation’s press release. "I am very pleased that we have been able to agree on a cooperation with Dirk Matschenz", said federation president Elena Anikina. "The contract was signed for two years, until the end of the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2022. I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Russian Olympic Committee, which, despite a difficult period, supported our application in every respect and provided funding. Now we have got a great coach who also had offers from other countries.“

During the last two seasons working with the German athletes, Dirk Matschenz celebrated eight World Championships medals with his team: 2019, Tina Hermann, Jacqueline Lölling and Sophia Griebel won Gold, Silver and Bronze in Women’s Skeleton at the BMW World Championships in Lake Placid (USA). 2020 in Altenberg (GER), it were the men who took all medals with World Champion Christopher Grotheer, Axel Jungk winning silver and Alexander Gassner with bronze. Tina Hermann became record World Champion in Altenberg with winning her third title and the duo Jacqueline Lölling/Alexander Gassner won World Championship gold at the premiere of the Skeleton Mixed competition.

Following the BMW IBSF World Championships 2020 in Altenberg, it was announced that Dirk Matschenz reached an agreement with the German federation BSD (Bob- und Schlittenverband für Deutschland) to terminate his contract. ©RWH2020
