U20 gold goes to Youth Olympic Champion Nydegger, Renner Europe Cup overall winner

Innsbruck (RWH) Skeleton athletes Evgeniy Rukosuev (RUS), Lukas Nydegger (GER) and Cedric Renner (GER) were honoured as winners at the final of the 2020/2021 IBSF Europe Cup.

In Innsbruck (AUT), Junior World Champion Rukosuev won the last race of the season just ahead of Italy's Amedeo Bagnis (0.03 seconds back) and local hero Alexander Schlintner from Austria (0.14 seconds back). Since the race was also counted as a Junior European Championship for the starters from Europe, the three skeleton athletes also secured gold, silver and bronze in this order. For Rukosuev, who finished fifth in the 2021 BWM IBSF World Championships, it is the second Junior European Championship title after 2019.

In the U20 classification of the Junior European Championships, Youth Olympic Champion Lukas Nydegger won gold. In January, the 18-year-old had already become U20 World Champion and thus currently has all the major international titles of the youngest skeleton athletes. Dmitrii Grevtsev (RUS) won U20 silver in Innsbruck. The bronze medal went to Latvia in the U20-classification – twice: Elvis Veinbergs, silver medallist at the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games, shared the podium place with teammate Valts Smilga.

Overall IBSF Europe Cup winner after the six races of the season is Cedric Renner (GER, 345 points), who finished fifth in Innsbruck. Lukas Nydegger (GER, 325) is second overall ahead of Britain's Ben Fulker with 180 points. ©RWH2021
