Ashleigh Pittaway, GBR Skeleton

Bath (RWH) Youth Olympic Champion Ashleigh Pittaway (GBR) is ending her athletic career ahead of the 2021/2022 Olympic season. The 21-year-old skeleton athlete made the announcement on her Instagram account.

Ashleigh Pittaway had won gold at the 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer. In 13 BMW IBSF World Cups between 2016 and 2019, eighth place in Sigulda (LAT) in November 2020 is the best result in the lists for the German native. In January 2019, the Brit finished on the podium in both the IBSF Intercontinental Cup (Lake Placid, USA) and the IBSF North America Cup (Calgary, CAN). The 2019 and 2021 Junior World Championships bronze medallist competed in her last race at the 2021 BMW IBSF World Championships in Altenberg (GER). With teammate Marcus Wyatt, Ashleigh Pittaway finished seventh in the premiere of the skeleton mixed competition.

„The decision to leave has been a difficult one but, supported by my amazing family and trusted friends, I know it is the right one. I am very fortunate to have a strong passion for Art and very much linked to this, I intend to travel and explore, before applying for a place at university to read for a degree in Fine Art next year“, the Briton wrote on Instagram. „To my wonderful teammates, who have supported and looked after me for all these years, I thank you from the bottom of my heart and I wish you all the best for the coming season and, of course, for the Beijing Winter Olympic Games.“
