Europe Cup victories in Innsbruck for skeleton athletes Roettig and Ro

Innsbruck (RWH) The skeleton team of China, host nation of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, celebrated two victories at the fifth IBSF Intercontinental Cup in winter 2021/2022.

In the men's event, Yin Zheng won his first race in the Intercontinental Cup after four victories in the Europe Cup at the beginning of the season. Second place in Innsbruck went to Junior World and European Champion Evgeniy Rukosuev from Russia. His team-mate Daniil Romanov came third.

In women's skeleton, Dan Zhao, seventh at the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games, celebrated her first ever victory in an IBSF race. The 19-year-old relegated Susanne Kreher (GER) and Canada's Hallie Clarke to second and third place.

Evgeniy Rukosuev and Susanne Kreher are also ahead in the Intercontinental Cup overall standings after five of the eight races of the season.

At the IBSF Skeleton Europe Cup in Innsbruck, Stefan Roettig (GER) won the men's race ahead of Dmitrii Grevtesv from Russia and Jacob Salisbury from Great Britain. In the women's event, US athlete Mystique Ro won ahead of Sarah Wimmer (GER) and Amelia Kellyman from Great Britain. For the British athlete it was the first podium finish in an IBSF race.

In the IBSF Europe Cup 2021/2022, the skeleton athletes have also completed five of the eight races of the season. Yin Zheng (CHN) in the men's and Li Yuxi (CHN) in the women's ranking are the current leaders. ©RWH2021
