Olympic Champion Christopher Grotheer second in Altenberg ahead of Axel Jungk
Altenberg (RWH) Third World Cup victory for Matt Weston: The skeleton athlete from Great Britain won the fifth race of the season in the BMW IBSF World Cup in Altenberg. Ranked fifth after the first of the two race runs, Weston still slid to victory in Altenberg with best time in the second run. It was the second win of the season and the fourth podium finish in the fifth race for the Briton.
In the end Weston was 0.14 seconds ahead of Olympic and World Champion Christopher Grotheer (GER). The local hero had started into the final run as the leader. Third place in the World Cup was secured by Olympic silver medallist Axel Jungk (GER, 0.50 seconds behind) in front of his traditionally large fan base in Altenberg.
Chen Wenhao from China finished fifth series in Altenberg to celebrate his by far best result in the race.
In the overall ranking of the BMW IBSF World Cup 2022/2023 two-time World Champion Christopher Grotheer (GER, 1054 points) defended his lead ahead of Marcus Wyatt (GBR, 985) who finished sixth in Altenberg. Axel Jungk (GER, 954) is third overall.
