Silver is eleventh medal in a row for Janine Flock, Susanne Kreher takes bronze
Altenberg (RWH) First European Championship gold for the World Champion: Tina Hermann (GER) has won the title in women's skeleton at the European Championships in Altenberg (GER). In the race, held as part of the BMW IBSF World Cup, the World Champion of 2016, 2019, 2020 and 2021 relegated Austria's Janine Flock (0.62 seconds back) to second place.
For Janine Flock it was the 13th European Championship start. Since bronze in 2013 on the Olympic track in Innsbruck, she has now won eleven European Championship medals (gold in 2014, 2016, 2019, four times silver, four times bronze) in a row.
As big as the gap between gold and silver was in Altenberg, as close it was behind in the race for the podium places in the World Cup and the European Championship medals: 0.01 seconds behind silver medalist Flock, Susanne Kreher (GER) took World Cup rank three and European Championship bronze. The 2022 Junior World Champion relegated Canada's Mirela Rahneva by another hundredth of a second to fourth place.
Olympic bronze medallist Kimberley Bos (NED), defending European Champion of 2022, finished fifth in the World Cup in Altenberg and fourth in the European Championship standings.
In the overall ranking of the BMW IBSF World Cup 2022/2023 Tina Hermann (GER, 1253 points) extended her lead with her third victory of the season. Mirela Rahneva (CAN, 1147) is second overall, just ahead of Kimberley Bos (NED, 1145).
